National Geographic Selects Alison as Adventurer of the year
Wednesday, March 9, 2011
Ok, I confess, I didn’t even know it was International Women’s Day! I was too busy skiing powder and planting veggies! Thanks to National Geographic, who nominated me on March 8th, as one of the top ten women adventurers of the year!
While that is a great honor, I want to pass it on to all those women out there who battle everyday for equal pay for work and sports, and every woman who has battled her fears to conquer a challenge.
At my KEEN Rippin Chix camp, at Aspen Highlands this past weekend, I watched gals battle their demos. Whether it was conquering hiking highlands bowl, sending Y12, or launching a flag air for the first time, they overcame their fears with a combination of new skills and cheering voices. We had some kickass prizes donated, including Patagonia jackets, a fantabulous NEMO tent, some KEEN shoes, an Osprey Pack, KEEN socks, Pistil Hats, Elemental Herbs non-toxic body products, and more. Special thanks to the sponsors for making the camp a success, including HEAD skis for providing rockin demos.
Here is a link some photo highlights of the camp:

Why do I get so stoked to see women have that epiphany that overcomes some of those fears in life? I guess it all goes back to that chubby geeky math kid, yes me, that had to face my battles and insecurities , especially in my quest to become World Champ. There were so many times that I didn’t think I could do it, and had my doubts, but I stuck with my quest.
So many times when life gets rough, I have to reach deep inside for that confidence.
Enough of this ramble, my point is, follow your dreams, what ever they may be, and don’t give up!! If you have time, vote for me as Women Adventurer of the Year:
