I added OptimalTerrainConsulting.com (OTC) to my team of doctors in 2013. I quickly realized that they needed to be my team leader – with my other oncologists, neurologists, integrative, functional, and general physicians as the players in my orchestra.
OTC believes that cancer is not a one trick pony – they do extensive testing that is not done with traditional cancer doctors to discover WHY we got cancer – DNA testing (genome sequencing and epigenome testing), food sensitivity testing, microbiome testing, immune system function testing, inflammation/oxidation testing, hormone testing, growth factor testing, heavy metal and environmental toxin testing, stress testing/analysis, blood sugar testing, D3 testing (immune), B12 testing (in cells not blood), Thyroid testing, sulphur sensitivity testing, caffeine sensitivity testing, virus testing -(EBV, HPV, Lyme’s, Shingles, infections, parasites), medication and supplement testing, ferritin/iron testing, Calcium testing (growth factor), blood clotting and circulation testing – Fibrinogen, INR, D-dimer, VEGF, COPPER, PAI-1, TSH, Ferritin, TK-1 screening, Adrenal testing – just to name a few.
OTC would act as a conductor/consultant for your team of doctors/oncologists/general practitioners. I would suggest also finding a local functional doctor or integrative doctor -use your zip code to find a practitioner. This local functional/integrative doctor can help you order monthly labs to ensure the protocols/treatments are working and so the labs are covered by insurance/medicaid/medicare. I don’t share much of my plan with my oncologist team, as due to the laws of the American Medical Association (AMA) they can only prescribe and endorse chemo/radiation/surgery or they are fired. They can’t even consider treatments that are used by mainstream medicine in other countries, such as Mistletoe.
Some doctors are open to at least reviewing your custom OTC report, and some learn lots of new things since each treatment protocol in the report is based upon science and is all referenced to scientific studies. Sometimes your oncologist can help you implement OTC’s custom plan for you and your cancer, but ideally you use your local integrative or functional doctor combined with OTC and myself to tackle the treatment plan – as it is often 75 pages long. Step by step I have been implementing my plan for the last several years with testable wonderful results. Also, you can decide whether surgery, chemo and radiation etc are part of what you want to do, and OTC can suggest some testing which will show which conventional treatments will work best with your tumor pathology tests, your lab test, and your DNA tests.
Once you do an appointment with them, they will email you a list of tests to get at your local hospital/blood draw. After you have an appointment and your labs are drawn, you can schedule a diet consult with me (I am a certified cancer diet coach and malignant terminal brain cancer survivor – AlisonGannett.com for more information).
You usually have to wait about a month to get in with OTC, so don’t delay in starting this process! They are all virtual, and you don’t have to drive anywhere. You will go over your custom report/plan from OTC for an hour on the phone and then follow up with them several times to answer your questions and your doctor’s questions.
There is no one “anti-cancer diet” or silver bullet – this is personalized medicine. No two people have the same DNA, or the exact same tumor, or the exact same reason they got cancer. Your testing will determine the right treatment, diet, and lifestyle changes needed to help you save your life.
There is no one “anti-cancer diet” – this is personalized medicine. No two people have the same DNA, or the exact same tumor, or the exact same reason they got cancer. Your testing will determine the right diet and lifestyle changes needed to help you save your life.
And do note, OTC respects any of your wishes regarding conventional treatments that you wish have. You are just adding them to your team to act as the overseer of your big picture plan of HEALTH. So often we get lost in disease and specialists….
Some folks wait until they have their report from OTC to work with me, and some want to start the diet changes right away – up to you.
There are two cool videos on my website, and one fun podcast that helps explain everything better – AlisonGannett.com
Costs – OTC is not covered by insurance. Price fluctuates, but generally around $1500, which includes EVERYTHING you need for your personalized cancer conquering, including a report of what triggered your cancering and a step-by-step guide to how to reverse each item. BEST money I have ever spent! Years later, I am still continuing to implement this report. Change takes time, effort and dilegence, and lots of tracking and testing at my local blood draw.
My diagnosis was terminal and malignant, and was only expected to live one miserable year. Instead, I invested money into finding why I got cancer and how to customize my treatment to my body, my DNA, my labs, my cancer. We are all different, and this is the ultimate personalized medicine – and super futuristic (IMO not “alternative” as every recommendation is backed by science). Want more info? click HERE about how it works with OTC.
Diet coaching with me is optional but highly recommended. I personally did keto wrong for way too long and almost lost my life due to this. I will personalize the ketogenic diet for your health history, blood chemistry and DNA. No two keto diets should be the same, as no two people are the same, and no two cancers are the same.
If you book with OTC, and send me your confirmation, we can get started immediately on diet coaching. The cost for my initial consult package is $500, which is around three weeks of working together. This includes an intensive review of your personal health history, DNA, blood chemistry, screen sharing of your diet diary – including macronutrient ratios, nutrient density, exercise and stress testing/analysis, ketone and glucose testing, and supplement recommendations. This also includes a one hour Skype/facetime appointment, with a second appointment to go over your DNA. Meanwhile, we will be screensharing and emailing to fine tune your customized keto diet plan.
If you want to wait on diet coaching, and your diagnosis gives you the benefit of time, you can start on your own at ketogenic-diet-resource.com.
Tracking your food intake is key – I use cronometer.com. Also, start inputing your foods BEFORE you eat them, aiming for 85% fats, 5% carbs, and 10% protein. We can customize your diet for your labs, OTC report and DNA – but this is a great way to get started. Most people think they are keto, but the fat comes in around about half what it needs to be and the carbs way over. If your ketones are not between 2-5 for come cancers and 3-7 for more challenging cancers, then working with a keto coach is key. I can create a custom eating plan with custom recipes for your optimal health, that is based upon either your report from OTC or you labs from you doctors. 23andme.com DNA test results help me customize your plan even further.
Keto on the internet is for weight loss, not therapeutic ketosis for cancer. They are really different, and that is what I specialize in helping you achieve with my diet coaching. When and if we work together on coaching, we screen share on cronometer.com so I can show you how to get the therapeutic numbers you need to achieve optimal health.
With the aid of you OTC report, this saves me tons of time, so coaching is only $300 for three weeks. If you choose to not use OTC, I can still assist with your keto diet coaching, but the charge is an extra $100 to go over your labs/history, and an extra $100 to go over your 23andme.com DNA report.
I do recommend following up with either me or OTC with monthly lab tests that you can do at your local blood draw, with your local doctor, or without a doctor’s order at walkinlabs.com (with blood draws at your local hospital or blood draw center). I test every month so I make sure I am on track to WELLNESS and that there are no signs of a cancering process. With a doctor’s order for the blood draws, all your tests should be covered by insurance.
These are not the labs that your oncologist usually looks at – instead OTC tracks inflammation tests, immune functioning tests, extensive blood sugar tests, cancer growth factor tests, allergy tests, etc.
After the initial critical crisis phase, it becomes more about optimal health than fighting cancer.
I was only supposed to live a year with my diagnosis, even with surgery, chemo and radiation. That wasn’t good enough for me. So I chose OTC. Plus, there was no amount of surgery, chemo and radiation that would keep my cancer away in the future if I didn’t get at the root cause of my cancer.
A great question for your doctor “of your other patients that have similar cancer to mine and do a similar treatment to mine, how many of them live, and how many are cancer free 20 years later”. My oncologists answer was zero. That also wasn’t good enough for me. I was mislead by my team of oncologists as when they say “this surgery, chemo and radiation has a 70% success rate” I did not know that success is defined by living one day past my life-expectancy. “Success” as defined by our medical system does not mean free of cancer, nor does it mean it will not come back, nor does it mean that it won’t kill. Semantics, ugh.
Cancer has been such a gift to me. “Normal” gave me cancer. With the help of OTC, I’ve changed my whole life for the better. I am now healthy for the first time in my life. Hooray for cancer being the best teacher. I love my life and what I have learned, such power! I hope to work with you, share the gift that is cancer with you and your family.
Best, Alison Gannett
