Alison founded the North Fork Fracking Facebook Page in 2011, when their farm became bordered and encircled with 30,000 acres of oil and gas leasing proposals. As chemical-free farmers, even one drop in their air and water could devastate sales, not to mention harm school children eating their food. Due to the Dick Cheney Halliburton loophole created in 2005, Natural Gas extraction is exempt from most parts of the Clean Water Act, The Clean Air Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act. Studies from Cornell, backed by recent field results from NOAA and CU show that Natural Gas extraction most often has a higher footprint than coal extraction. Alison and Jason co-exist most peacefully with their neighbor, The Bowie Coal Mine, and dread the fact that the natural gas industry is exempt from the regulations that the coal mine must obey by.
